Beatles with Beards (Let It Beard)
From fresh faced fab four through their various phases, The Beatles lived through
many changes, including their bearded episodes.
I believe it began with Paul, during the stressful time when he became legally uncoupled from his three blood brothers.
Paul, (with Linda close by,) would appear in the London Court daily, sporting a dark bushy beard, obviously his attempt to hide from that grim wintry time.
John notably displayed his beard when he and Yoko took to a Canadian bed-in for peace, and at other times, like when they spent time at the Ashram of The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India, when beards (at least for the men) seemed to be the order of the day.
George went through various phases, partially during his “Indian” awakening, when he began to take the sitar seriously, and dwelt seriously on the faith, the food, the culture, the clothing etc., I have to say, I always felt that George wore his the best. A beard seemed to go well with his dreamy soulful eyes and gentle demeanor.
And then there was Ringo. Although he grew a few moustaches, he was not the biggest proponent of the hirsute fashion. Although once or twice he did break down and grow some on his chinny chin chin. But somehow, he never really looked at ease. But underneath it all, he still looked whimsical and vulnerable, making the girls want to mother him. Or was it something else they wanted? Maybe he just needed a little help from his friends?
